Katie Roberts
The Yarra
Series

Hello,
I am Katie Roberts, an Australian artist working in Melbourne/Naarm.
I make everything from large-scale works on paper to projection installations.

Since finishing my Masters of Fine Art in 2006 on the topic of Light as a Medium, I have been been engaged in a ongoing body of work re-mapping the Yarra River (Birrarung), its history and environment. I aim to make work that includes and acknowledges the hidden histories still present on the land and addresses ongoing colonisation.

Central to my work is our human relationship to the environment and the destructive and creative powers of humankind.
I make artwork out in nature along the rivers and creeks of Melbourne/Naarm and further into the land, in my little art van Xanthea – I am currently travelling to South Australia and New South Wales making artwork.
Please feel free to contact me regarding my work at katierobertsart@gmail.com

Katie Roberts was born in Melbourne/Naarm in 1973, on Wurundjeri Land, into a family of authors, artists and activists deeply involved in the Landrights Movement. In London while drawing at the age four, she suddenly knew she was going to be an artist, this has been a driving force in her life ever since.
